The eLos Plus Motif laser we use has a wavelength of 1064 nanometers meaning it is infrared radiation and is invisible to the naked eye. The laser pulses at six bursts at a time each one lasting about 1 and 1/2 milliseconds and it delivers 25 joules of energy per square centimeter.
So how does laser hair removal actually work?
Very basically: Laser light and the heat generated by the laser is used to destroy the hair follicle, thus stopping it from producing hair.
Melanin is a molecule in your skin eyes and hair that makes it dark in colour. its purpose is to absorb the damaging ultraviolet light and protect you from the sun.
Its purpose is to absorb ultraviolet light which is the wavelength which is most damaging to your skin.
So when the laser fires the melanin molecules actually absorb the laser light beam and in the process get burnt away because the temperature gets to around 100 Degrees.
But the whole idea behind the laser hair removal is not to damage the hair but to heat up the Germ cells in the hair follicle and once this is destroyed the hair will no longer grow back. So we actually using the hair to destroy itself.
The temperature rises above 60 degrees Celsius and at that temperature the bonds in hair proteins and collagen molecules start breaking down and this process is called denaturation.
So the higher the temperature and the longer that temperature can be maintained, the more denaturation occurs, and the more likely that that cell will die.
Inturn, the more damage one can administer to the cells in the hair follicle the better chance you’ll have of the hair never growing back, and this is the whole point of laser hair removal.
How long will it take before the hair stops growing back
This depends on person to person and the hair type but normally it will take between 3 and 6 sessions to stop the hair from ever growing back.
Why doesn’t it burn your skin and only the air
The laser Does not hurt or damage the skin because the laser bursts is broken up into very short pulses, this makes sure that enough energy reaches the Germ cells in the hair follicle but does not have time to penetrate the surrounding area and skin tissue t to cause any damage or pain.
The laser pulses at around 1 to a ½ a millisecond so that there is no time for your skin to absorb energy from the laser light light and get burnt .
What about dark skinned people?
The Motif laser system we use, can work on light or dark skin as well as light dark or even grey hair. The unit is so sophisticated that it knows to only burn the hair and not the skin no matter how dark or light it is.
Can laser hair removal cause cancer
No, the laser beams produced by hair removal machines do not cause changes in DNA tissues or cause DNA mutation. There’s no threat of getting cancer from laser hair removal process.
The dangerous type of rays are ionizing rays which are produced by X-ray machines and CT scanners. When this type of ionizing radiation passes through the body it can damage DNA cells which can potentially lead to cancer.
The pulses of laser light produced by hair laser removal machines are only meant to hit and destroy hair follicles. The light does not penetrate deeper than hair follicle themselves and so no internal organs are put at risk. As of now there’s been no research shown that using laser treatment to remove hair causes cancer anyway.
Laser hair removal side effects infertility
No, there are rumours especially on the internet saying that laser hair treatment or removal around your pubic area or genitals can cause you to become infertile or cause ovarian Or testicular cancer.
As mentioned before in this article, the laser beam or laser light only penetrates as deep as the hair follicle, this does not come anywhere near the ovaries or testicles should it be a male so there is no chance of getting cancer or becoming infertile
Is laser hair removal safe for armpits
Yes, laser hair removal is perfectly safe for use on armpits. Numerous women will shave their armpits thousand of time in the course of their lifetime. The plan to find a way around this tiresome process can appear attractive, and you may question if laser hair removal is a very good substitute. However as delicate as your under the arm areas are, is laser hair removal safe?
Even though laser hair removal may well seem extreme, it’s actually harmless when it comes to your under arms. Infact, it’s relatively delicate on your skin, and there’s very little discomfort if any, in the course of the treatment or afterward. Considering that underarms are generally a small area, the treatments frequently take less than 10 minutes. This is why many people suggest trying laser hair removal on the underarms before larger areas of skin.
Will laser hair removal affect my tattoos?
No never, the eLos laser treatment system we use is a really focus treatment, in which only hair roots are targeted. Every laser has a specific wavelength that it uses to produce the laser light and this laser wave length targets specific particles in the skin/hair, and in this case the particle is, melanin and melanosomes.
Melanosomes are only present in the hair and therefore hair removal treatment works.
Tattoos include tattoo pigment which might be inorganic or natural and include colours such as, green, blue or red and these need a different wavelength to lighten or get rid of a tattoo markings than to remove hair. The lasers that are needed for tattoo removal are extremely different compared to the lasers that are utilized in laser hair removal treatment.
Simply to restate, there is no overlap of the wavelengths in between tattoo lasers and hair elimination lasers, so your tattoos will not be damaged in any way.
